I had a blast working on Marathon. After a couple of years of concept work, I had the opportunity to create the key art for the game. Working alongside the art team's concept work, I began by modeling, texturing, and rigging high definition 3D assets for the core cast of runners. That allowed me to iterate quickly on the key art, I could play with a wide variety of compositions, scenarios, and poses without needing much in the way of 2D polish. It felt more like photography than illustration, I really enjoyed myself. It was a great learning experience, and set me up for my eventual transition into creating animated cinematics for the runners.

Here are a few pieces I put together for Thief in close collaboration with Art Director Joseph Cross, building on amazing character design work by Patrick Bloom.
